13 Of The Weirdest Wrestling Cameos In Movie History
Hulk Hogan did it. The Rock did it. Even Stone Cold popped to knock about some heavies. Every now and again a big wrestler makes the jump from squared circle over and onto the big screen. Here’s our look at some of the “blink and you’ll miss 'em” wrestler cameos.
Jeff Jarrett - Spring Breakers (2012)
Spring Breakers featured a scene where former Disney actressesdanced in ski masks and automatic weapons while James Franco (doing his best Riff Raff impression) serenaded by performing Britney Spears on a piano.
Gucci Mane was the major antagonist. It has been five years and we’re still not sure if it’s a really great satirical crime film, or just a bit weird.
In between all the shenanigans, former WWE, WCW and TNA Superstar Jeff Jarrett popped up as a Christian youth leader. Back in his wrestling heyday, Jeff Jarrett was known for hitting people over the head with guitars. Now, much like in real life, double J wants to extol about the virtues of Christ. Fair play mate.
Kevin Nash - Magic Mike (2012) & Magic Mike XXL (2015), John Wick (2015)
A former WWE and WCW world heavyweight champion, during the '90s Kevin Nash was one of the coolest people on the planet to wrestling fans.
Standing six-foot-nine, Big Daddy Cool’s appearance as Tarzan in the Magic Mike films are pretty good, although he gets lost on some of the confusing dance numbers. As for his Russian accent as a bouncer in John Wick? Nailed it.
Bill Goldberg - Looney Tunes, Back in Action (2003)
Goldberg was known for two things in his wrestling career: 1) his undefeated streak of 179-0 when he first debuted and 2) absolutely OBLITERATING opponents with his spear and jackhammer combination.
Working as the armed muscle in the Looney Tunes movie, he got to fire a lot of guns along with Yosemite Sam. Which is not even close to his silliest wrestling story.
The Big Show - Jingle All The Way (1996)
Arnold Schwarzenegger Christmas masterpiece (shut up, the final act features a jetpack) Jingle All The Way saw Arnie have to face off against The Big Show in one of Santa’s factories. This isn’t Arnold’s first brush with a wrestler, as a WWE Hall of Famer, he once wellied Triple H on an episode of Smackdown.
Terry Funk - Roadhouse (1989)
The granddaddy of hardcore wrestling, Terry Funk has been slamming steel chairs and clobbering people with barbed wire bats for nearly 50 years. He’s so hard that way back in 1999 he was told by doctors he should not even be able to walk without intense pain, and he still sort of wrestles today.
So if anyone was going to be a good opponent for Patrick Swayze to fight in Roadhouse, it’d definitely be the hardcore legend.
Edge - Highlander: Endgame (2000)
The first Highlander film was campy fun with a Frenchman playing a Scotsman, and Sean Connery playing an Ancient Egyptian pretending to be Spanish. Queen was on the soundtrack.
The fourth Highland film had nearly none of those things, but it did have the Rated R superstar Edge as a highwayman style villain who nearly gets his dick cut off by Christopher Lambert. Call it a tie between the films.
Hulk Hogan - Gremlins 2: The New Batch (1990)
You might have missed this cameo as for ~some~ reason, it got removed for the home video release of Gremlins 2. Partway through The New Batch, the movie stops and breaks the fourth wall. Apparently Gremlins had invaded the cinema in which “you” were watching the film, so to get Gremlins 2 back, a cinema patron tags in Hulk Hogan to intimidate the little tykes into putting the film back on. Bit weird. Bit brilliant.
Suburban Commando (1991)
Suburban Commando was one of many films that tried to turn Hulk Hogan into a movie star. So far, so obvious wrestling appearance. But hidden among the films various grunts is the deadman himself, The Undertaker as a bounty hunter. The fight between the pair is actually a rare time Hulk Hogan ever beat the Undertaker. True story.
Macho Man Randy Savage - Spider-Man (2002)
The Macho Man popped up in the Sam Raimi Spider-Man film to play… another wrestler called Bonesaw. This cameo is played pretty straight… except for how the Macho Man used his cameo as part of a rap diss song on Hulk Hogan.
Shawn Michaels - Baywatch (1996)
One of the greatest wrestlers of all time, Shawn Michaels popped up in Baywatch for season 7 episode “Guess who’s coming for dinner”. Michaels plays the bodyguard of a mob boss and gets beaten up by an old lady. Ouch.
Hulk Hogan and Ric Flair also popped up for later Baywatch episodes. The '90s were weird.
Rowdy Roddy Piper - It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia (2009)
To date, Roddy Piper has the best performance by a wrestler in a film (sorry Rocky, sorry Batista), with his performance in They Live. But sitcom fans may have spotted Roddy as in an episode of It’s Always Sunny where he plays a struggling wrestler who lives out of his car. Damn.
The Great Khali - The Longest Yard (2005)
The Great Khali was an Indian wrestler known for being seven-foot-one and not being very good at wrestling. Somehow “The Punjabi Prince” got wins over Shawn Michaels and The Undertaker on his way to a world title. He also popped up in The Longest Yard remake to grunt a bit and look huge. Decent.
The Rock - Star Trek Voyager (1999)
Nowadays The Rock is one of the most recognisable actors in the world, but backway back when in the dark days of 1999, he popped up as futuristic fighter in an episode of Star Trek Voyager ( "Tsunkatse") and no one batted an eyelid. Bring him back for the next big Star Trek??
