Full Biography
Idiots Of Ants are that strange beast on the live comedy scene – a sketch group. Not since the 1990s has comedy really seen a strong sketch group, and Idiots Of Ants truly are that.
Idiots Of Ants are made up of Elliott Tiney, Benjamin Wilson, James Wrighton and Andrew Spiers and formed in 2007.
That year they made their debut appearance at the Edinburgh Festival where they received notable reviews in the national press.
They continued to take their show to Edinburgh and were were nominated for the main prize in 2009 for their show 'This Is War'.
The accolades continued in 2010 when they won a Chortle Award for Best Sketch Act.
Where as most sketches are performed in full costume, Idiots Of Ants (Idiots Savants – get it?!) arrive on stage, akin to The League Of Gentlemen in their early days, in simple black shoes, black trousers, white shirt and black tie. This shows that Idiots Of Ants don't need fancy gimmicks to get their brilliant sketches to the audience.
A simple prop may be deployed, such as handbag each in their excellent 'Women' sketch, or perhaps a guitar for the love song they may perform to a member of the audience. Whatever it is, the sketches aren't just cheap shots, they are well thought out and will always keep you guessing.
With being a successful sketch group, it was only a matter of time before Idiots Of Ants started appearing on the television and radio.
They first appeared on BBC3 programme The Wall and one sketch from that show, 'Facebook In Real Life' was then shown on Fox News and has become a sensation on YouTube.
In 2008, they had their own show on E4 and performed on BBC Radio 4's Loose Ends.
Idiots are destined to go the way of other sketch troupes such as The League Of Gentlemen, Fry & Laurie and Mitchell & Webb.
They have not only the drive, but also the humour of even Monty Python, and that is surely the highest compliment.
