The insights Jo Caulfield makes about the human condition would have sociologists stroking their beards in admiration, but her audience tend to be laughing too much to notice.

Jo has come a long way since her first open mike spot 12 years ago. Without preparing anything, she drunkenly won the competition and was invited back the next week.

Jo then saved up to buy a microphone and amplifier and opened her own comedy club in the basement of The White Horse in Hampstead.

She compered there for 5 years and has since played almost every comedy club in the land in addition to being the warm up to such shows as Have I Got News For You, Room 101 and Bremner, Bird & Fortune.

Her Edinburgh shows have moved to a bigger venue every year and she is one of the few comedians there who is guaranteed a sell out.

Jo Caulfield is an observational comedian who looks at all aspects of human life. She knows the roles each of her friends take but won't refer to them by that, that she leaves for her husband.

Her years of compering have given Jo an excellent rapport with the audience; so comfortable are they that regularly she asks them to write down what makes them angry and annoyed.

Pensioners who shop at lunchtime and short people with umbrellas are some of the more unusual answers.

Jo is not only a performer but a writer extraodinaire. She was the chief writer for the BAFTA wining So Graham Norton and has also written for Joan Rivers, Marcus Brigstocke and Ant & Dec.

She is a regular guest on Mock The Week, Have I Got News For You and the I Love The 19 something or others on Channel 4.

On radio she is equally ubiquitous, appearing on The News Quiz, The Now Show, The Unbelievable Truth and Clive Anderson's Chat Room.

Jo Caulfield truly is a remarkable talent. She knows how to write and perform a gag and her ability to interact with an audience is up there with the best.

At 17 Jo left home and moved to London to sing and play drums in a Rockabilly band. This was an unusual decision as Jo can neither sing nor play drums.
