Full Biography

John Bishop is a Liverpudlian through and through. He has a scouse accent, supports Liverpool Football Club, will cut you without an inch of provocation and will make you laugh. One of these is not true.

John didn't start his comedy career until 2000 at the mature age of 34; before then he worked as a sales director, playing football for Southport on the side.

John says that going to and performing at comedy clubs saved his marriage.

Only a year after he started performing, John reached the finals of many new act competitions and won the City Life North West Comedian of The Year Award.

In 2002 he was named best newcomer by BBC Radio Merseyside, and in 2004 he won the North West Comedy Award for best stand-up.

John Bishop is a just a scouser who's confused with the modern world.

He knows nothing about cars and isn't afraid to admit it, and he certainly doesn't understand the youth of today, even if he does have three children. He doesn't really know how to be a parent and with a Dad like his it's not surprising.

However, John is more than happy to tell you about his life as a man, husband and father, and will draw you into his world with his easy going style.

John has many experiences to draw from too, from cycling round the world to being a night club doorman.

Being an avid football fan, it is no surprise that John has appeared on many a sports programme including Soccer AM and Fighting Talk.

He is a regular panellist on Sky's A League Of Their Own and has his own programme on LFC TV interviewing former Liverpool football legends.

He has also produced his own Apple App on the 2010 World Cup in which an animated John talks football at you. Bizarre.

In 2010, off the back of his appearance on Michael McIntyre's Comedy Roadshow, the BBC saw fit to offer John his own Saturday night show John Bishop's Britain.

Although sounding like a man who is worn down by life, John Bishop is a fine comedian capable of finding the humour in any situation he finds himself in, but he may not know it at the time.

Did You Know?:

John once appeared on Celebrity Mastermind. His specialist subject was the Irish Potato Famine and he came fourth. Looking back, it was a bad choice for a subject.
