Aged just 19 Russell plotted himself on the comedy map by getting to the final of Channel 4's So You Think You're Funny? competition in only his fifth ever gig. An instant hit with his innate ability to improvise on any subject, Russell makes the stage his own personal playground and thrives on spontaneous chats with his audience, leading them down a never-ending series of unstoppably comical journeys.
In 2004 Russell performed his acclaimed debut solo show and the rest is history. Since then he has been busy cementing his place as one of the hottest properties in comedy with his BBC6 Music show every Sunday, loads of Mock The Week and Never Mind The Buzzcocks on BBC2, Would I Lie To You? and two series of Live At The Apollo on BBC1, Law of the Playground on Channel 4 and Tough Gig, The Brits and The British Comedy Awards on ITV.
Russell's first love remains the stage and he enjoyed a complete sell out at Edinburgh 2004-2006. In fact, in 2007 Russell sold every ticket of his run before the Festival had even started.
His first nationwide solo tour of if.comedy and Barry Award nominated show 'Wandering' was a complete sell out success, while his second solo tour 'Adventures' in Autumn 2007 was again a complete sell out including selling London's Bloomsbury Theatre out in a day before adding three extra shows sold out shows.
2008's 'Dingledodies' tour was the biggest yet and included three nights at the London Hammersmith Apollo and Russell’s biggest single gig to date at Wembley Arena. The tour was extended adding 10 final June '09 dates.
His long-awaited debut stand-up DVD, Russell Howard Live was released on 17th November and he now helms his own topical news show on BBC Three Russell Howard's Good News. The series was such a roaring success it's been re-commissioned for a further two series.
