Niles And Daphne: A Labour of Love...

Niles and Daphne: Star-Crossed Lovers

Never Too Late
As Daphne’s wedding day approached she was heartbroken to discover that Niles, on impulse, had married Mel, so Daphne intended to go ahead with her own marriage to Donny, until Frasier intervened.  Hurrah!

Finally, Niles confessed his love for Daphne on the eve of her wedding day.  Talk about cutting it fine and in true romantic style, Daphne left Donny at the alter and the pair hot-footed it out of there in a Winnebago!  Classy.

And so began the fairytale romance…albeit with Niles now a married man, forced by his new wife to keep up appearances in public, with Donny suing the pair for the trouble they had caused.

Not only did the pair have to overcome the effect their relationship was having on the people around them, they also had to compromise between their completely different lifestyles, interests and indeed, their social standing.

Describing Daphne as a “working class Venus”, Niles worked through everything with her, even when she started eating through all her problems and ‘got fat’. (Jane Leeves was actually pregnant so the only thing the writers could think of was to send her away to Fat Camp!).

Bundles of Joy
Niles and Daphne finally tied the knot in season 10 in Reno, Nevada, and for the remaining series the pair adjust to life as a married couple.

As the pair tried for a baby, fear of Niles's infertility led to a more than over-the-top reaction from the worry-wart, but never fear a little bundle of joy was already on the way and in the final episode of Frasier, Daphne gave birth to their son, Daniel.  Awwww.

And that’s the tale of the ‘psychic’ (wasn’t very on it was she?!) and the psychiatrist, a true chalk and cheese story which no doubt leaves Niles & Daphne topping the list of perhaps the greatest sitcom relationships ever told.
