Star of 30 Rock Alec Baldwin to host Oscars

The BBC reports that 30 Rock star Alec Baldwin and fellow 30 Rock guest star Steve Martin are to host to 82nd Academy Awards.

This will be the first time the awards have been presented by more than one host since 1987 when Chevy Chase, Goldie Hawn and Paul Hogan shared the stage.

Martin already has two Oscar nights under his belt having hosted in 2001 and again in 2003 whereas Baldwin was nominated for an Oscar for best supporting actor for his role in 2004’s The Cooler.

Baldwin announced this “was the opportunity of a lifetime” and Martin was “happy to co-host the Oscars with my enemy Alec Baldwin”.

Co-producer of the awards Adam Shankman said the two actors “adore each other” and feels the pairing will give the ceremony a “tradition and also freshness walking hand in hand”.

Last year saw X-Men’s Hugh Jackman host the awards, providing musical interludes including duets with Beyonce.

Nominees for the most coveted awards in the industry will be announced on 2nd February and the ceremony will take place on 7th March.
