Kelsey Grammar to take to the stage?

Kelsey ‘Frasier’ Grammar is in talks with Broadway executives to star as Georges in the Broadway revival of La Cage aux Folles.

The New York Times reports that no contracts have been signed yet but executives “were optimistic that Mr Grammar would be on board in the role”.

The musical centres around a gay couple - Georges who runs a drag nightclub and Albin who is the star attraction as the voluptuous ‘Zsa Zsa’.

The pair’s idyllic existence “is threatened when Georges’ son announces his engagement to the daughter of a right-wing politician, who wants to close down the local colourful nightlife.”

Over here in the West End, the play has enjoyed rapturous success featuring Graham Norton and John Barrowman in the cross-dressing role of Albin. and was translated to the big screen as The Birdcage, starring Robin Williams, Nathan Lane and Gene Hackman.

British actor Douglas Hodge who currently plays Albin in the current London production is set to reprise his role when the Broadway version opens.

After the cancellation of his latest sitcom Hank, Grammar would be a fool not to take up this once in a lifetime opportunity.
