In 1989 school holidays were shaken to their very root by the arrival of a new show that celebrated the joys of attending school in a place where the sun always shines and the only problems you face are which of Daddy's cars to drive to school - Saved By The Bell.
Quite simply, it made Grange Hill look like a depressing show about a school in inner city London.
The show introduced a variety of characters ranging from the lovably zany Screech to teen heartthrobs Zack and, of course, AC Slater. Albert Clifford (A.C.) Slater was the kind hearted, latino school jock rarely seen out of a running vest.
For 5 years, he thrilled ladies across the land, but since the show ended in 1993 what has Slater AKA actor Mario Lopez been up to?
Born in 1973, Lopez (no relation to Jennifer) was an amateur wrestler at High School but broke into acting as a child in the comedy series a.k.a. Pablo about a Mexican trying to make it as a stand up comic.
Perhaps realising that acting would get him more interest from the ladies than rolling around on the floor with a greasy man, Lopez put wrestling behind him and concentrated on his acting. A variety of TV credits followed before he hit pay dirt with Save By The Bell.
The success of the show led to the follow up series Saved By The Bell: The College Years before ending with Saved By The Bell: Wedding In Las Vegas. Lopez hasn't been out of work since Bell ended but it's been in American TV shows and movies that haven't seen the light of day in the UK.
Particular highlights include sci-fi movie Journey: The Absolution and the 2002 film King Rikki - a 21st century re-make of Shakespeare's Richard III.
Most recently, as a TV host, Lopez has fronted a variety of shows including Pet Star and America's Most Talented Kid. The lucky blighter married the minx from the Doritos advert - Ali Landry - but sadly they divorced a month later.
