From its start in 1985, the tempestuous relationship between Sue and Ali Osman kept many an Eastenders viewer on the edge of their seat. They were like a diet coke version of Den and Angie running the café rather than the Queen Vic.
In true Eastenders style, the couple had more downs than ups during their time on the square, including the loss of a child, Sue's mental health problems and Ali's dalliance with a 'lady of the night'. But since leaving the show in 1989, what have they both been up to?
London born Nejdet Salih's first acting role was in Auf Wiedersehn Pet in the role of 'Turkish worker queuing for wages'. He followed this humble start in 1985 by landing the plum role of Turkish cab driver (with a weakness for gambling) Ali Osman on a new show called Eastenders. Since leaving the show in 1989, Salih has made two further appearances on TV: 1992's Carry On Columbus playing the role of Fayid and last year's excellent James Nesbitt drama Wall Of Silence, in the role of Mustafa.
Actress Sandy Ratcliff's - who you can see in her "Sue" days here - rise through the British TV ranks saw early appearances in shows such as Minder and The Sweeney. Her first major role was in the Ken Loach BAFTA nominated film Family Life where she took the title role of a schizophrenic teenage girl. This was followed by roles in slightly less well-received films including The Final Programme and Hussy with Helen Mirren.
Ratcliff's one further TV appearance since Eastenders was in 1992's Maigret opposite Michael Gambon.
