We lost entire summers watching them sleep, eat, row and slag off the other housemates in the diary room. Then they walked out the Big Brother house victorious, bagged exclusives with Heat and OK!, posed topless for Nuts and did a Panto.
But when it comes to the Big Brother winners Where Are They Now?
Big Brother 1: Craig Phillips
Merseyside builder Craig Phillps kindly donated his Big Brother winnings to a friend with Down’s syndrome. Since then he’s appeared on numerous DIY programmes and has travelled to Falkland Islands, Kosovo, Bosnia and Ascension Island to spread his home makeover tips.
He’s now working on ITV’s 60 Minute Makeover and has just released his eagerly anticipated autobiography, ‘My Story: Building Beyond Big Brother’.
Big Brother 2: Brian Dowling
Gay Air Steward Brian Dowling quit the high life for a presenting job on SMTV Live before landing his own show, Brian's Boyfriends on ITV. He’s also appeared on The Salon, The Mint, Star Psychic, Big Brother’s Big Mouth, All Star Family Fortunes, Cirque de Celebrite and Hell's Kitchen.
His last TV gig was presenting 100 Cheesy Pop Videos on Smash Hits TV. Things have been a bit quiet for Brian since then, so he’s now doing Panto.
Big Brother 3: Kate Lawler
Pretty Kate Lawler was the first female to win Big Brother in the UK. Shortly after leaving the Big Brother house she made a fitness DVD. She also co-presented Channel 4’s daily breakfast show, RI:SE alongside Iain Lee, until it got cancelled.
Since then she’s appeared in Celebrity Wrestling and Celebrity Extra. Kate also dabbled with being a WAG and got engaged to Spurs footballer Jonathan Woodgate but they split up in 2005. Kate now has her own show on Kerrang Radio. Not too shabby for a former IT support worker from Beckenham, Kent.
Big Brother 4: Cameron Stout
Cameron Stout, the evangelical Christian from the Orkney Islands whose religious beliefs led him to take a vow of no sex before marriage, wasn’t your typical Big Brother winner. Following his Big Brother victory, the religious Scot headed back to his homeland where he became a spokesman for the BBC series Restoration, and co-presented Teen Commandments with Radio 1 DJ Edith Bowman.
He now lives in Aberdeen and is a regular contributor to a number of Scottish newspapers. He also regularly does Panto, despite being the shyest BB winner ever.
Big Brother 5: Nadia Almada
Who could forget Nadia, the transsexual from Portugual who kept her sex change a secret from the other housemates (although some of them thought her jaw was a bit mannish). Following her win, or “acceptance” as she called it, Nadia unleashed her vocal talents on the charts with her single, A Little Bit of Action.
It was a flop of course, but that didn’t stop her going on to appear in The Friday Night Project, 8 Out of 10 Cats and Trust Me - I'm A Holiday Rep. Work on the TV front has been quiet of late, and she recently spent some time at The Priory for depression.
Big Brother 6: Anthony Hutton
After winning BB6, the former 70s dancer from County Durham has, predictably, released a fitness DVD and appeared in Panto. Although Anthony enjoyed a brief stint as a celebrity on Sky’s football reality show The Match, TV work has been a bit thin on the ground.
Like fellow BB winner Kate Lawler, Anthony has now turned his talents to music and can be found at the decks in many a North East club.
Big Brother 7: Pete Bennett
Pete made a name for himself as the first person with Tourette’s Syndrome to appear on Big Brother. After his win Pete dated fellow-contestant Nikki Grahame. But alas it didn’t last, they split a few weeks later and he got together with a long-time friend.
Since then, Pete has published an autobiography, Pete: My Story and written some songs with Guy Chambers, who used to work with Robbie Williams. Pete has been a regular DJ at London club, Circus since his time in Big Brother too. He was also recently spotted by Comedy Central moshing at a Prodigy gig in his hometown of Brighton.
Big Brother 8: Brian Belo
Avid Big Brother fan, Brian Belo was the youngest ever winner. He briefly dated fellow housemate Amanda Marchant, one half of the “Samanda” twins, who came a close second to winning BB8. Brian has since landed a regular spot on Harry Hill’s TV Burp, sharing his views on the week’s TV.
Big Brother 9: Rachel Rice
Welsh student Rachel Rice won last year’s Big Brother contest. Like Cameron Stout, Rachel was an unlikely winner and has shyed away from the celebrity circuit, choosing only appearing on various Big Brother related spin off shows.
Unlike most students, the soon-to-be-qualified drama teacher from Newport spent her £100k windfall on clearing her debts and donating to charity. Very admirable!
Whether or not 2010’s Big Brother winner will be equally generous or reserved is anyone’s guess, but one thing’s for sure – a career in Panto is beckoning!
