“Daddy can I have a Lamborghini?” “Of course sweetie, have a beach condo as well” I’m not bitter or anything…
That’s basically Beverley Hills 90210 in a nutshell. Rich kids. No sense. But we get couldn’t get enough of it.
Allowing us a window into a world which 99% of us will never know, Beverley Hills 90210 ran for ten years throughout the nineties and showed us what our childhoods could have been like had our parents been millionaires, and if we lived in California…
But whatever happened to the insanely good-looking kids of Bevvers?
Tori Spelling – “Donna Martin”
Daughter to 90210 producer Aaron Spelling, little Tori played Donna Martin for the whole series. During those ten years Donna was stalked, nearly raped, pushed down a flight of stairs, and was dyslexic…bad times.
Post Hills, Tori turned to what celebs these days do best – allowing a film crew to documents their utterly pointless day-to-day activities in reality series Tori & Dean: Inn Love.
In 2007, she became a minister so that she could marry a gay couple at Chateau La Rue (these celebs get mighty bored) and of course it was featured in her other show Tori & Dean: Home Sweet Hollywood. Set the recorder.
Tori also reprised her character for a couple of episodes in the recent revamp of 90210.
Here’s a pic of Tori with hubby Dean McDermott and bubbas Stella and Liam.
Tiffany Thiessen – “Valerie Malone”
Valerie Malone arrived in Beverley Hills in season five as a ‘replacement’ for Brenda and became Kelly’s arch-nemesis).
Valerie suffered an HIV scare, faked a pregnancy to blackmail her married boyfriend, and revealed that she killed her own father. Whatabitch.
Thiessen, formerly known as Tiffany Amber-Thiessen besides from her 90210 role also enjoyed success in teen sitcom Saved by the Bell as Kelly Kapowski.
In recent years Thiessen has played Brian’s boss in What About Brian? And guest starred in the short-lived Good Morning, Miami and Just Shoot Me!
Tiffany currently stars as Elizabeth Burke in the crime ‘dramedy’ White Collar and is married to actor Brady Smith. The couple are expecting their first child in May 2010. Yay! Click here for a pic of Tiff in White Collar.
Brian Austin Green – “David Silver”
Brian Austin Green was also another 90210 survivor who lasted the entire run.
Green played David Silver, stepbrother to Kelly Taylor who battled drugs and tried to make it as a rock star but ultimately ended up marrying Donna.
Green was cast as David Silver because Aaron Spelling thought his own personality reflected that of David’s and subsequently scripts were often written reflecting Green’s own interests. So while Green began experimenting with hip hop music and being a DJ, so did Silver.
Of late Green appeared as Kyle Reese’s brother Derek in Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles. Here’s Brian in full brooding mode.
On the romance-side during 90210, Green dated co-star Tiffany Thiessen but nowadays Brian is currently canoodling Transformers’ cardboard cut-out Megan Fox. In 2009 then got engaged but apparently thought against the idea some months later. They’re still dating though! Phew!
Jennie Garth – “Kelly Taylor”
Pretty much the female backbone of the series Kelly Taylor played Jennie Garth was 90210’s leading lady. Often finding herself the object of many-a-man’s affection she eventually settled down with Dylan.
Jennie was ‘instrumental’ in launching the spin off Melrose Place and also the 90210 revamp.
The only original cast member to remain a main character in the new 90210, her character Kelly now works as a high school guidance counsellor and keeps an eye on her little bipolar sister ‘Silver’. Here she is nowadays - if only all guidance counsellors looked like her.
Aside though from all things Beverley, Jennie came fourth place in Dancing with the Stars despite a perfect score for her Cha-Cha-Cha, she’s voiced characters for Family Guy and American Dad and she is married to Twilight and Nurse Jackie’s Peter Facinelli and the pair have three daughters.
Ian Zierring – “Steve Sanders”
Brash, self-assured and a ‘look before you leap’ kinda guy, Steve Sanders appeared in every episode of Beverley Hills, 90210.
Just to be different and annoying Zierring pronounces his name “eye-an”.
After 90210, Zierring made it to the semi final in Season 4 of Dancing with the Stars and in 2006, Zierring produced, directed and starred in a short film, Man vs. Monday which won the Audience Choice Award at the 2006 Ft. Lauderdale Film Festival. Well done Ian!
Zierring apparently stated to the press that he would prefer not to participate in the spin-off 90210. Fine.
Take a look at his chops these days.
Shannon Doherty – “Brenda Walsh”
Shannon played Brenda Walsh the dame who shared a zygote with twin brother Brandon.
Doherty was apparently fired from the show after conflicts with other cast members and was written out of the show as moving to London to attend the Royal Academy for Dramatic Arts.
But soon after 90210, Shannon cropped up Kevin Smith’s Mallrats and the landed her biggest role to date was as Prue in supernatural witch-fest Charmed.
Like many of the cast, Shannon also returned as Brenda in the new 90210 in the first six episodes as a successful theatre actress and stage director, becoming the guest theatre director of the high school musical. Here she is.
She also just confirmed she will be taking part in the tenth season of Dancing with the Stars.
Jason Priestly – “Brandon Walsh”
Described as the ‘moral centre’ of the group Brandon had his fair share of problems from drink to gambling and left the show to take a job in Washington D.C at The New York Chronicle.
Brandon was the last character to leave the show, but Priestly continued to serve as an executive producer until the show’s cancellation in 2000.
Priestly has been a regular in TV series’ Tru Calling and Love Monkey and also cropped up in the BBC’s remake of The Day of the Triffids (scary plants).
Priestly returned to the new 90210 but off-screen, directing the episode in which Donna Martin returned.
An interesting fact: American band The Barenaked Ladies cite Priestly as instrumental to their success after he persuaded radio stations to play their song ‘The Old Apartment’ and invited them to play on Beverley Hills, 90210.
Brandon is now happily married (his second marriage) to make-up artist Naomi Lowde. They have two children together.
Look at the happy chappy here.
Luke Perry - “Dylan McKay”
‘Teen Idol’ Luke Perry was actually in his mid-twenties when he starred as 16 year old Dylan McKay – but when has that ever stopped American teen soap producers?
Dabbling with drugs and having his dad blown up by a car bomb didn’t any good for 90210’s ‘anti-hero’ but he soon straightened himself eventually ending up with Kelly.
After a three year hiatus from the show, Perry returned as a special guest star for the remainder of the series whilst trying to pursue more mature roles.
Perry can be seen in The Fifth Element, and various TV movies in America. He also popped up in Spin City, Will & Grace and Law & Order: SVU.
And here's what he looks like these days!
