Video Games You Should Play This Weekend
Let's cut to the chase: 2016 was an absolutely garbage year, and 2017 isn't shaping up any better.
From all your celeb faves dying, through Brexit, right on down to Donald "Make Fascism Great Again" Trump you're fireding his way through the White House, there's no better time to get away from it all.
As there's (as yet) no way to leave this godforsaken planet, it's time to escape in a different, more virtual way. So we decided to pull together our seven favourite video games, guaranteed to help you forget all your problems.
The Last Of Us
The end of the world isn't always triggered by a new President, sometimes it's all about the Zombies. A vividly realised world, where hope is fleeting and danger is everywhere shapes this violently human story into one of the most satisfying gaming experiences of all time.
It's the night of the hunt, and everywhere people are transforming into beasts. But is there something more at play?
> Watch: Gamewreckers With Joey Essex and Ed Gamble's Rock Band
Welcome to Yharnam, the setting for the gothic masterpiece by FromSoftware (the team behind Dark Souls), a harsh-but-fair nightmare where the stakes are astronomical.
Everybody's Gone To The Rapture
It's said that hell is other people, and given this year it's hard to disagree. That's why Everybody's Gone To The Rapture, where, you guessed it, everybody's gone to the rapture, is such a pleasure to play.
Explore a deserted Shropshire village, listening to the souls of the recently departed to find out just what happened to everyone. It's like a home away from home!
One of the most beautiful games of all time, you play as Henry, a fire-spotter working in a picturesque American national park, who stumbles across a pretty sinister mystery care of fellow park worker, Delilah.
> Watch: Gamewreckers With Joel Dommett and Rhys James
Short but sweet, Firewatch will keep you guessing the whole way through, and the scenery's so vivid, you'll swear you've got a lungful of warm mountain air, even in the dead of winter.
I personally lost 150 hours of my life to Skyrim in 2011, and with the recent HD update, I'm pretty down with doing it all again.
A fantasy RPG of epic proportions, you play as a dragon-born warrior, charged with defending the land from the increasing firey-winged threat that plagues the skies. With literally hundreds of side quests, this game will keep you engrossed and playing for HOURS on end.
Some of the biggest stories in life take place in the smallest spaces, and Gone Home is no exception.
Taking place over one night in the middle of a thunderstorm, your character returns from a trip to Europe to find their family missing. The tension and atmosphere of wandering around your deserted family home, unravelling the mystery of just where your loved ones are will leave you on the edge of your seat.
Seriously, you will never forget this game.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt
Winner of the 2015 Game Of The Year Awards, The Witcher 3 is one of the best games ever made.
> Watch: Gamewreckers With Tez Ilyas and Tom Rosenthal
You play as Geralt, a monster slayer for hire, in the middle of a love triangle, torn apart by a civil war, while the fate of the world (and your adopted daughter) hangs in the balance.
The map is huge, the world is alive, the dialogue is masterful and the gameplay is just a joy. You need this in your life. Hell, it should just become your life, tbh.
