As there's (as yet) no way to leave this godforsaken planet, it's time to escape in a different, more virtual way. So we decided to pull together our seven favourite video games, guaranteed to help you forget all your problems.

One of the most beautiful games of all time, you play as Henry, a fire-spotter working in a picturesque American national park, who stumbles across a pretty sinister mystery care of fellow park worker, Delilah.

Short but sweet, Firewatch will keep you guessing the whole way through, and the scenery's so vivid, you'll swear you've got a lungful of warm mountain air, even in the dead of winter.
I personally lost 150 hours of my life to Skyrim in 2011, and with the recent HD update, I'm pretty down with doing it all again.
A fantasy RPG of epic proportions, you play as a dragon-born warrior, charged with defending the land from the increasing firey-winged threat that plagues the skies. With literally hundreds of side quests, this game will keep you engrossed and playing for HOURS on end.
Some of the biggest stories in life take place in the smallest spaces, and Gone Home is no exception.
Taking place over one night in the middle of a thunderstorm, your character returns from a trip to Europe to find their family missing. The tension and atmosphere of wandering around your deserted family home, unravelling the mystery of just where your loved ones are will leave you on the edge of your seat.
Seriously, you will never forget this game.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt
Winner of the 2015 Game Of The Year Awards, The Witcher 3 is one of the best games ever made.

You play as Geralt, a monster slayer for hire, in the middle of a love triangle, torn apart by a civil war, while the fate of the world (and your adopted daughter) hangs in the balance.
The map is huge, the world is alive, the dialogue is masterful and the gameplay is just a joy. You need this in your life. Hell, it should just become your life, tbh.
