The Impractical Jokers Spill The Secrets Behind Their Harshest Pranks
The Impractical Jokers might well be great mates, but putting eachother through endless punishment must strain their relationship a teency-weency bit.
That's why the A.V Club decided to quiz them on their process when deciding on pranks and punishments. Surely they ease off from time-to-time, for the sake of friendship?
When asked if they're conscious of eachother's pet peeves when deciding where the show will go, Sal said:
"We’re completely conscious of that at all times. Most punishments are derived from that thought process, of “What would this person hate?” Every once in a while, we’ll have an idea just in general. If I have an idea of, “Oh, this would make a good punishment,” before I tell it to any of them, I decide internally if it wasn’t tailored specifically to them from the get-go.
"I’m generally like, “Oh, this would be good,” then I’ll think, “Well, who would it be best for, and how can we even tweak if further to be better for that person?” Then if I internally decide this works best for Murray, I’ll go to Joe and Brian and I’ll tell them at that point. And it will always remain a secret."
"But for the most part at this point it’s like second nature. We’re not even thinking. I don’t sit down anymore, and say, “Let me just think of punishments.” That’s where my head goes in my regular life all the time. When my mind is turning, when I’m driving, when I’m trying to sleep, whatever, I’m getting these thoughts for the show, just in regular life.
"So they naturally come to me. It’s actually more of an organic process now than it was when we first started, because it’s been our life now for five years. We’re going to be 130 episodes in at the end of this season. So that’s where my mind goes all the time now."
So there you have it - they're not quite the heartless bastards that you think they are.
