The UK’s 10 Most Iconic Film Quotes EVER
Quotes from classic movies have become so embedded in popular culture that we often find ourselves using them in conversation on a regular basis.
Research from Warner Bros, to celebrate the release of its Iconic Moments film collection (available on DVD and Blu-ray now, *wink wink*) has unveiled the UK’s favourite film quotes.
Do you recognise any of the below?
1.“Heeere’s Johnny!” - The Shining, 1980
“Heeere’s Johnny!” from Kubrick’s ground-breaking 1980s horror 'The Shining' has been voted the UK’s favourite film quote. Fun movie fact: the creepy catchphrase was famously improvised on set by Jack Nicholson.
2. “There’s no place like home” - The Wizard of Oz, 1939
The Wizard of Oz is Judy Garland’s most memorable film role and is widely considered to be one of the greatest films in cinematic history.
3. “Frankly my dear, I don't give a damn” - Gone with the Wind, 1939
The American romantic classic ‘Gone with the Wind’ once held the accolade of being the highest-earning film of all time for over a quarter of a century...
4. “You’ve got to ask yourself one question: 'Do I feel lucky?' Well, do ya, punk?” - Dirty Harry, 1972
Clint Eastwood stars as Inspector “Dirty” Harry Callahan in the iconic film series, which created the mould for a whole genre of police films.
5. “Here’s looking at you kid” - Casablanca, 1942
This 1940s romantic blockbuster features countless memorable film quotes throughout – “Here’s looking at you, kid” is actually used four times. Cray or what?
6. “S-s-s-s-s-s-mokin'!”- The Mask, 1994
Starring both Jim Carrey and Cameron Diaz, the Mask sees Carrey transform from an unfortunate bank clerk into a green-faced superhero. Surely everyone’s quoted this before...
7. “Toto, I've a feeling we're not in Kansas anymore” - The Wizard of Oz, 1939
Another from Oz! Legendary for its use of Technicolor, fantasy storytelling, musical score and memorable characters, ‘The Wizard of Oz’ has become an iconic film in its own right.
8. “It's showtime!”- Beetlejuice, 1988
The Tim Burton cult-classic ‘Beetlejuice’ saw Michael Keaton don a pinstriped suit to play the film’s title character Beetlejuice in this dark 90s comedy.
9. “Hey, you guys!” - The Goonies, 1985
With a story written by Steven Spielberg himself, The Goonies quickly became an American cult classic.
10. “All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy” - The Shining, 1980
How could we NOT end on this banger from 'The Shining' though?
Kubrick’s adaption on the Stephen King thriller is widely regarded as one of the greatest horror films of all time.
