30 Rock aired a new episode in the States this week, addressing Tracy Morgan’s homophobic rant from last year.
The episode showed Morgan’s character Tracy Jordan sparking protests after a homophobic stand-up routine. See what they’re doing here…?
Liz Lemon / Tina Fey tells Tracy, ‘Believe it or not, the dumb things you say may influence or hurt people. You need to apologize.’
However, Jordan apologises to the makers of Glad bags rather than GLAAD, a.k.a. the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation. Liz has to say sorry on his behalf, ‘he’s not capable of hate…he’s just an idiot who doesn’t know what he’s saying.’
See, it’s like art imitating life imitating art… erm, or something.
Critics and people who can type into the internet have said the episode didn’t have the usual 30 Rock panache but GLAAD’s senior director of programs Herndon Graddick has gone on the record to say, ‘I thought it was hilarious. We’ve been called worse than trash-bag manufacturers and look forward to seeing the second part next week.’
