Oh how we sobbed last night when we heard the bittersweet news that 30 Rock will return for a seventh season – albeit it’s last.
Despite a mountain of Emmy awards and critical acclaim in abundance, the news came yesterday that Tina Fey’s creation will be renewed by NBC for another 13-episode run but it will be the last hurrah for the TGS crew.
Still, it’s a bonus that the comedy hasn’t been given the immediate boot with the chance for our beloved 30 Rock characters to find some resolution in the forthcoming season.
Alec Baldwin had been hinting for a year that the show, and in particular his involvement in it, would be nearing an end soon but when the news broke last night he enlightened everyone on Twitter with this gem: ‘I have no flippin idea what’s gonna happen.’
Apparently, we’ll know more on Monday when there’s some presentation to advertisers.
What will happen to Liz and Jack? Will Kenneth ever find his way out of the page programme? Will he want to? Will Jenna ever function as a normal human being? That’s a lot to fit in those final 13 episodes...
Tina Fey recently revealed, ‘I think for example her relationship with Criss [James Marsden] is a nice one in that she's not altering who she is and it's still working out. And I think her path, as she's re-started this path toward motherhood, I'm excited for the character. We haven't figured out how it will play out but I think there's a way for it to play out and still have her feel true to her character.’
Anyway we prefer to live in the moment – you can watch 30 Rock Season 6 Fridays at 10.30pm on Comedy Central.
We guess we’ll just have to console (and amuse) ourselves with a brilliant clip in the meantime...
