Hank, Kelsey Grammer’s latest sitcom has been branded a clumsy reworking of the Frasier formula the LA Times reports.
The sitcom takes advantage of the economic downturn, featuring Grammer as a Wall Street executive losing his job and trying to reconnect with his family.
However, trying to top the mighty success that was Frasier, Hank has fallen foul of the critics.
Feeling that Grammer was not ready to part with his Frasier character, Matthew Gilbert notes Hank is “a junky sitcom that isn’t old school so much as mould school”, which brought back Grammer’s famous character for more “huffing and puffing”.
Tom Maurstad of the Dallas Morning News and Tim Goodman of the San Francisco Chronicle blast the sitcom for its over use of an “incessant laugh track”, which only goes to serve the “exceedingly prefabricated feel” of the show and underlines “how not very funny the jokes are”.
