Peter Kay is to return to stand up after more than five years away.
He is set to announce a live tour for next year later this week – after reliving the early days of his career for his memoirs, Saturday Night Peter, reignited his passion for stand-up.
Writing on his website over the weekend, Kay said: "Just to confirm that the rumours are true and I've decided to return to the world of stand-up once again."
"Writing the book reminded me how much I love it. So the ball is now rolling, the wheels are in motion and as soon as I have an update you'll be the first to know – well, after my mum of course."
The 36-year-old – who earned an estimated £4.5 million last year, mainly from book and DVD sales – is set to reveal the dates on Chris Moyles’ Radio 1 show on Friday morning.
Also on Friday, Kay – who is hosting the Royal Variety Show next month – will unveil a new video he has created for this year’s BBC Children In Need appeal.
