Peter Kay has today announced the dates for his return to stand-up…but there’s only four of them.
After seven years away, the Bolton comic is performing The Tour That Doesn’t Tour at Manchester’s M.E.N Arena on April 27, 28, 29, 30.
Tickets will go on sale at 11am tomorrow – and will probably be gone soon after 11.02am tomorrow. Already Kay’s website has gone down this morning under the weight of traffic.
Kay said he was inspired to return to the stage for the first time since his mammoth Mum Wants A Bungalow tour when writing about his early days in stand-up for his new autobiography, Saturday Night Peter.
He said: ‘As I was writing it, I went through a lot of my old material which I had written down, along with set lists and during that writing process I felt almost back there and remembered the excitement and nerves that come with performing live as a comedian. There is nothing like that feeling - it is very hard to describe.
‘It made me realise that I had a skill that I had honed over quite a long time and that involved a lot of hard work. It seemed to me to be a shame to develop a skill like that and then not go back and do it.
‘Stand-up is incredibly important to me, which is why it has been so long since my last tour. If it was just a case of doing it for the money, I would have done two or three more by now. As it is, I feel that now is right and I am really looking forward to performing live again. I love it.’
Tickets will be avaulable from 0844 847 8000 or visit www.ticketmaster.co.uk, www.peterkay.co.uk or www.men-arena.com
