Michael McIntyre has topped yet another chart of 2009 – for the comedian whose tickets were the hottest on the second-hand market.

Ticket trade site Viagogo said more people brought and sold tickets to his gigs this year than any other artist, easily beating his nearest rival, Billy Connolly.

Seats for his shows traded at a maximum of £87, the site reports, but the act with the biggest mark-up was Peter Kay, whose tickets were going for up to £600 each.

Fans were willing to pay up to £100 to see Connolly’s sold-out shows in his native Glasgow.

Ed Parkinson, director of Viagogo UK, said: ‘This truly has been a great year for comedy with all the greats taking to the stage.

‘The public’s appetite for comedy tours seems to be ever-increasing and with people paying up to at staggering £600 for the best seats to see Peter Kay this year, it seems it’s hard to put a price on a good laugh.’

Even Russell Brand proved popular, demonstrating  that ‘Sachsgate’ really didn’t do his career any harm
