Harold Ramis (pictured) has revealed that Ghostbusters 3 will be released in 2011.
"Something’s going to happen. Dan [Aykroyd] did write a spec GB3 screenplay a few years ago, but no one was motivated to pursue it. Now, 25 years after the original, there seems to be some willingness to proceed and apparently a substantial public appetite for a sequel," Ramis said to Heeb magazine.
The writer and actor who plays Egon Spengler in the franchise added he hoped they will start shooting this summer for a release in 2011.
The movie will apparently focus on the old Ghostbusters handing the firm over to a new breed of professional paranormal investigators and eliminators with Steve Carell and Seth Rogen rumoured to take up the mantle.
Meanwhile Superbad and Juno actor Michael Cera took advantage of working for Ramis on his latest film Youth In Revolt and dropped many a hint that he would love to star in Ghostbusters 3.
He told People "[I loved] Ghostbusters. As a kid, I wanted to be Bill Murray's character. Harold told me lots of stories and I memorised every word."
