The third instalment of the Meet the Parents franchise Little Fockers has been pushed back to a December release date.

Universal have opted to release the Matt Damon-fronted thriller The Adjustment Bureau and fantasy adventure Scott Pilgrim vs. the World starring Michael Cera in the summer months instead.

Universal’s Nikki Rocco told the Hollywood Reporter that the studio is being “opportunistic” after taking note of the absence of a big comedy title in the Christmas 2010 period.

Rocco explained: “A year ago, the Christmas landscape wasn’t as clear,”

The movie will now be placed against other Christmas contenders including Jack Black’s adventure flick Gulliver’s Travels and the next comic-book adaptation The Green Hornet starring Seth Rogen.

The majority of the original cast of Meet the Parents are returning including Ben Stiller (pictured), Robert De Niro and Teri Polo and Barbara Streisand is also expected to reprise her role as Roz Focker.

It is still unclear yet whether Dustin Hoffman will return.  We hope he does!

Little Fockers (still a working title) will see newlyweds Greg and Pam Focker attempting to raise twins whilst under the ever-critical eye of De Niro’s ex-CIA father-in-law Jack Byrnes.

Little Fockers is slated for release on December 22nd in the U.S.
