The Thick Of It’s creator Armando Iannucci has dismissed reports that a planned election night special had been canned as ‘all b*****ks’.
One of the show’s stars said a one-off had been considered, but abandoned because the writers couldn’t be sure who will win.
James Smith, who plays hapless adviser Glenn Cullen, said that the team had discussed recording different outcomes depending on whether Labour or the Tories won the poll, but that the idea had been dismissed as unworkable.
He told The Sun: ‘Armando wanted to do an election special but we thought that it would look foolish if we got the wrong party.
‘We thought we could do different endings and end it on that night but that wouldn't work logistically. Then we thought, what's the point of doing that and missing the point that the show is so politically astute?’
However, writing on his Twitter feed, Iannucci linked to the story and said: ‘Mmm. Can I just say, this is all bollocks? Nothing’s been discussed yet.’
Another series of The Thick Of It is expected later this year although writing will not begin until after the election.
