Armando Iannucci has described how “thrilling” it is that In The Loop won an Oscar nomination for best adapted screenplay yesterday.
Iannucci told Movieline how the news “still hasn’t sunk in yet” and that he hasn’t “had time to pause for breath”.
“Since the moment I got the news, it’s just been constant phone calls and interviews and press stuff like that.
“Obviously it must be real... It’s thrilling, and it’s great that the film got the recognition, because it’s just a little film that we always had high hopes for”
Iannucci who co-wrote the script with Jesse Armstrong, Simon Blackwell and Tony Roche will be up against An Education, Precious, District 9 and Up In The Air.
In The Loop has earned itself a bit of a reputation for it’s ‘colourful’ use of the English language. Asked whether he thought In The Loop could be the most profane script ever to receive an Oscar Iannucci replied “Do you reckon? How did Goodfellas do? I remember that and Pulp Fiction,
“It’s funny how swearing and violence is considered defensible. If somebody attacks you physically, you’re allowed to swear. But swearing in a comedy is seen as a slightly disturbing, unsettling thing”.
The 82nd Academy Awards will be held on 7th March and will be hosted by Steve Martin and 30 Rock’s Alec Baldwin.
