Ricky Gervais is to receive the prestigious ‘Sir Peter Ustinov Comedy Award’ at the Banff World Television Festival in June.
According to Digital Spy, The Office creator was announced as this year’s recipient of the award and has revealed that he is “honoured” for the recognition.
Speaking to USA Today Gervais, who recently hosted this year’s Golden Globes said: “This is probably the greatest honour of my career. Only the Nobel Peace Prize can top this, but I will only accept that in person if the ceremony is held somewhere as beautiful as Banff. I think they FedEx, luckily”.
Past recipients of the award include John Cleese, Tracey Ullman and Kelsey Grammar.
Peter Vamos, director of the festival commented: “We could think of no one funny man so deserving of this prestigious award this year, than Ricky Gervais,
“The Office is the most critically-acclaimed sitcom of all time and Gervais’ worldwide influence in the comedy industry is unparalleled”.
Gervais also recently confirmed that his iconic David Brent character will be making an appearance on the U.S version of The Office.
