With the Oscars mere days away, Eddie Izzard has come up with an ingenious plan to rid celebrities from awards-season blues – kill everyone that wins!

“I like the idea that people who win awards, they get killed,” Izzard said to the San Francisco Chronicle, “And then people would be so good at not winning.”

He added: “There’s too many of these things. Either too many or not enough, I think. Maybe another 100. I think they should have compulsory ones, compulsory awards that everyone has to go to."

"They’ll be going, ‘Oh, another awards ceremony,’ and people are really ticked off when they win another one.”

Izzard is hosting one of the awards-season’s final ceremony, the Spirit Awards, which honour independent film.

This year is the 25th anniversary of the awards yet Izzard admitted that he has never seen the awards or any of the nominated films! So why did he decide to do it?

Izzard said: “Because it’s independent. It’s about the independence, which is what America was about, what 1776 was about,” but he does plan to fit in a marathon of films before the show – and we all know how Eddie feels about marathons!
