The Royal Television Society awards were held last night and comedy came up trumps!

Charlie Brooker finally got the recognition he deserves for the BBC Four series Newswipe which beat The X Factor and Britain’s Got Talent in the best entertainment section.

Harry Hill won best entertainment performance in his TV Burp trouncing Michael McIntyre’s Comedy Roadshow and Ant & Dec who were nominated for I’m a Celeb and Britain’s Got Talent.

Iain Morris and Damon Beesley won the award for comedy writing for E4’s The Inbetweeners beating competition from Jo Brand’s Getting On and Miranda.

Miranda Hart however won best comedy performance for her semi-autobiographical role in BBC Two’s Miranda

She was venerated for creating “a warm and vulnerable character that is wonderfully engaging and genuinely funny”.

Hart beamed “I haven’t won a prize since junior high jump in the ‘80s so I’m thrilled”.

The Thick of It’s Peter Capalidi and Ruth Jones were also nominated.

The Thick of It
did however triumph over Miranda in the scripted comedy category

So everyone was a winner!...Nearly.
