Whilst Four Lions delights British cinema goers up and down the country, ‘3 Lions’ is making an emotional comeback for Russell Brand.
The iconic Euro ’96 England song is being re-released for this year’s World Cup with Russell Brand and Robbie Williams teaming up with original creators David Baddiel, Frank Skinner and The Lightning Seeds’ Ian Broudie.
Brand told The Sun how emotional he found the recordings: “I was embarrassed by how emotional I felt singing this song. I nearly cried. It took me back to Euro ‘96 - Spice Boys, dentist’s chairs and Gazza’s last hurrah.
“It’s the only good England song and I look forward to singing it as we crash out on penalties. Then I will be crying.”
Robbie Williams said: “I’ve always been approached to write football songs but have always declined as I thought ‘3 Lions’; could never be beaten - so I am really happy to be part of this record. I am counting down the days until the start of the World Cup”
Lightning Seeds front man Ian Broudie added: “The public really wanted a new version of ‘3 Lions’ and after 12 years it felt like the right time to have a new recording but it had to be just right. When I hear this version... I can’t wait for the World Cup to start.”
‘3 Lions 2010’ is released on Monday.
