Matt Lucas has accepted ‘substantial undisclosed damages’ from the Daily Star for invasion of privacy over articles published after his ex-partner’s death in October last year.

The Little Britain star sued Express Newspapers who publish the Daily Star over the coverage of the suicide of Lucas’ partner Kevin McGee.

Lucas and McGee married in a civil partnership in December 2006 but divorced just over two years later.

The Daily Star published a story saying that Lucas had been put on suicide watch and that he had found a new boyfriend to move on with after telling the media that he was not willing to discuss the matter and asked for his privacy to be respected.

The Guardian writes that Lucas’ solicitor told the high court: “Such claims are wholly without foundation, and publishing these false claims at this time considerably aggravated the hurt and distress caused by the article.”
