The Edinburgh festival will soon be upon us and queen of quirk (not Pauline) Josie Long can’t wait.

Whilst offering her guide to surviving the Edinburgh festival for The Guardian, the comedienne reminisced about her past experiences of the festival and expressed her own mixed emotions about returning to the Fringe.

“I first performed at the fringe when I was 17 years old. It’s been the focal point of my year ever since, an irresistible, horrible, wonderful pilgrimage” she said.

“Doing Edinburgh is a rite of passage for stand ups: it can be both ecstatic and crushing in the same day. You arrive at the station, full of anticipation and confidence, and then you get the sh*t kicked out of you for a month. And that’s if it’s a good year. It’s brilliant.

“The Edinburgh festival is a giant. It will change your life, or ruin it. But I wouldn’t miss it for the world.”

She added: “It’ll be a manic month, but it means everything to me to join in again. Whether you’re going up to perform, or just to watch, it’s thrilling – but it can be difficult and daunting.”

Josie’s, performing her Edinburgh show Be Honourable at the Caves between the 5th and 29th August.

But before she totters off up to Edinburgh we’re pleased to announce that Josie will once again be teaming up with Robin Ince for the “difficult second series” of their podcast Utter Shambles

Past guests have included Stephen Merchant, Ed Byrne and Rhod Gilbert and the new series has some names to die for.

They’ll be available this summer but in the meantime why not catch up on the past series here.
