"People say that's unrealistic," an insider told us. "But can you really believe a word that comes out of Darth Vader's helmet? Would he own up to decades of unpaid child maintenance? Come on, get real."
Other areas likely to be tinkered with include the Force. "The Force is an ethereal power that gives uncanny strength to the beholder. It allows those who have it to strive for greater things. So naturally Dumbo springs to mind."
Plans to reveal Dumbo as the Chosen One after DNA testing in the eighth Star Wars movie are yet to be confirmed. But his midi-chlorians are said to be off the scale.
But the character Disney really wants to get its hands on is Princess Leia. "What she really needs is a handsome prince who falls in love with her instantly, that she initially despises, but eventually realises is her one true love," said our source. "Oh and a great big power ballad."
Disney is also thought to be interested in spin-offs of the series, especially one featuring Chewbacca as a puppy. Chewbacca would be revealed on his home planet with his best friend, a fluffy kitten, called Fluffy The Kitten. They would go on all sorts of adventures while learning about friendship and self-respect, resulting in a ubiquitous line of plastic toys.
So, in a nutshell, Star Wars purists have nothing to worry about.
