When we heard Kathy Bates had landed the role of the ghost of Charlie Harper in the last season of Two and a Half Men, we were worried it could be the worst bit of casting since Keanu Reeves tried to convince us he was a Victorian gent in Dracula. Well, how wrong were we? The Oscar-winning actress just added another gong to her mantelpiece by landing a coveted Emmy award over the weekend for her one-off appearance as a cigar chomping phantom – something Sheen never did when playing the role himself.
Since Bates has proven beyond reasonable doubt she can pull off a more authentic Charlie Sheen than Charlie Sheen, it is now rumoured she will play him in all subsequent films and TV shows.
This dramatic decision was made to ensure all subsequent work by Sheen (real name Carlos Irwin Estevez) achieves the highest critical acclaim possible. There are even talks in place to use CGI to replace Sheen with Bates in all his past films.
“It is a dream come true for Kathy” disclosed a source. “She’s often dreamed of being dropped into a Platoon slap bang in the middle of the Vietnam conflict, deal with Michael Douglas on Wall Street or become a Major League baseball legend. Well now, thanks to this glorious opportunity and modern technology, she can.”
But not everyone’s happy. Reports are coming in that Sheen’s brother, Emilio Estevez, is livid that his plans to step in should the situation require have been thwarted. (At the time of writing this is something we at Comedy Central can neither confirm nor deny).
Whether or not Kathy Bates will step in to Sheen’s shoes at some point for Anger Management remains to be seen.
