Speaking on Daybreak this morning Brand said: ‘Our Cheryl? That cannae be right! Our Cheryl, kicked off X Factor? What, the American one? And I’ve come to this country in good faith and they’ve kicked Cheryl off, our Cheryl? Oh no! She’s Britain’s sweetheart.’

Cole will be replaced by Nicole Scherzinger now following the decision from the producers who had fears that the American population wouldn’t understand Cheryl’s Geordie accent.
‘Is that what they don’t understand - the accent?’ Brand added. ‘Just listen more, just listen very intently. All them things she’s saying – that’s English.’
Even Al Murray defended Chezza: ‘That’s not the special relationship, is it?’ he remarked. ‘Dumping our Cheryl, dumping the nation’s sweetheart. Mind you, that hair – it’s bonkers, look at it!’
Meanwhile comedian Michael Legge jested on Twitter: ‘Cheryl Cole didn’t even make it to boot camp.’ He’s got a point…
