We all know that train journeys are dull, plain and simple. If you find them exciting, good for you, but you should perhaps stop putting that whisky in your morning coffee. However there are now comedy announcements to lighten up the long commute between London and Birmingham.

Tony Robinson, who played Baldrick in the Blackadder series, is helping the train drivers learn their lines and we are sure that he's helping them on their comic timing. Which we think is a good idea because the trains that we grace with our presence do really need to work on their timing.

Richard Preddy, one of the writers of Green Wing, will write the lines, some of which will include:

'Welcome to London Marylebone. Would any passengers hoping to sell their cow for a handful of magic beans please make their way to Jack and the Beanstalk immediately.'

'You are advised that listening to loud music can annoy other passengers. Other ways to annoy them are to block the exits, push onto the train, or call everyone you meet "Denise".'

Preddy said: 'We have all waited for a train or a bus into work as the rain pours down and bustled our way to a seat, and I think comedy can help to alleviate that stress.'

Using the word 'comedy' is stretching it we feel however anything will help the dull commute in the morning.
