Pleasing the crowd with his striking and self-deprecating resemblance to Michael McIntyre, a routine involving ‘sausage lols’ and cross-dressing, University of Cambridge’s Phil Wang was declared our winner and will enjoy ten guaranteed gigs with Michael McIntyre and Lee Evans’ management Off The Kerb Productions and mentoring from Comedy Central.
The night was expertly compèred by Patrick Monaghan and our panel of judges featured Stand Up For The Week star Jack Whitehall, Rick Hughes from Off The Kerb and Comedy Central’s Leanne Diggins who had the tough choice of picking a winner from the high calibre of young-blood stand up on offer.
Of the other contestants, Ed Patrick did a great job of opening the night, Jack Whitehall said Neil Hickey ‘made love’ to his ears, Leanne Diggins praised Tony Basnett’s guts for interacting with his audience and Rick Hughes spotted Perrier potential in Emerald Paston.
The cherry on the icing came in the form of a special surprise set from Glasgow’s latest superstar Kevin Bridges who at 24-years-old himself (it’s true!) could relate whole-heartedly to the contestant’s backstage nerves.
Well done Phil and congratulations to everyone that took part. See you next year!
