Comedian and Comedy Central Roaster Patrice O’Neal has sadly passed away aged 41 following complications from a stroke last month.

Representatives for O’Neal released this statement: ‘It is with terrible sadness we must report that Patrice O’Neal has passed away this morning at 7:00am due to the complications of the stroke he suffered on October 19. Many of us have lost a close and loved friend; all of us have lost a true comic genius.’

Recently seen on the Comedy Central Roast of Charlie Sheen, Patrice was remembered by the ex-Two and a Half Men star via Twitter saying: ‘The entertainment world as well as the world at large lost a brilliant man today. Patrice had that rare ‘light’ around him and inside of him.

I only knew him for the few days leading up the Roast. Yet I will forever be inspired by his nobility, his grace and his epic talent. My tears today are for the tremendous loss to his true friends and loving family.’

Patrice was well-known in the States for his ‘biting wit that sliced through pretences’ as CC Insider puts it, and also from appearing in shows like Arrested Development and The Office.

Ricky Gervais commented on Twitter ‘One of my favourite stand up comedians. So sad. RIP,’

A much beloved and respected comedian Patrice will be sorely missed. Rest in peace.
