David Walliams has endured a 140 mile swim in dirty water, he’s battled diarrhoea and he even saved a dog all in the name of Sport Relief as he completed his River Thames swim yesterday.

After starting in Lechlade, Gloucestershire last week the comedian paddled up to Westminster Bridge dodging strong currents and boats after his most gruelling long-haul swim ever.

The Come Fly With Me star has previously swam the English Channel and the Strait of Gibraltar for Sport Relief.

‘It was hard work,’ he admitted to BBC News. ‘It was really, really tough and the distance took it out of me. I did a lot of training but I don’t know quite how you can prepare for this because it’s an endurance event.’

He added that ‘a bath is the only water I want to see for quite a while.’ I bet!

Currently Walliams’ River Thames swim has raised more than £1million. You can add to that total by donating here.

Well done David! What’s next though? A cross Atlantic crossing in 2012?
