We all know planes are full of phalanges - or at least they should be - but what ever possessed Friends’ Phoebe to take up the name Regina Phalange for all her alter ego (read ‘name she gives to the authorities’) needs.

Here’s where Phoebe could have found inspiration...
While most of us were dozing off in biology, no doubt ears pricked up when the funny word ‘phalanges’ was mentioned - just rolls of the tongue doesn’t it? The plural of phalanx, it refers to the little bones in our fingers and toes.
Or she could have stumbled upon this adorabibble little creature called a Male Common Spotted Cuscus part of the Phalanger family – a wee possum like fuzz ball native to the wooded areas of Australia and Papua New Guinea. Look at his little possumy poonum!
If you’re called a ‘phalangist’ someone may think you’re a member of The Lebanese Phalanges - a traditional right-wing Lebanese political party. Although it is officially secular, it is mainly supported by Maronite Christians. Cheers Wikipedia for that one!
But if we’re going to start spelling it wrong there’s the nearly-the-same-word ‘flange’ – the collective noun for baboons no less…or an funky audio effect…or the bit where you join another bit of something to another bit of something......or what nowadays refers to undesirable lady parts. We’ll leave it at that.
