Our beloved Utter Shambles star Josie Long has been nominated for the 2012 Foster’s Edinburgh Comedy Award for the third year running with her show Romance and Adventure. Congratulations! Could she be in for a win this year? Russell Kane won it on his third try so there’s an unnecessary comparison for you all to mull over...

Joining Josie on the shortlist are Claudia O’Doherty for The Telescope, Doctor Brown for Befrdfgth, James Acaster for Prompt, Pappy’s in their Last Show Ever! and Tony Law for Maximum Nonsense.

This year’s Best Newcomer shortlist – which coincidentally Josie won in 2006 – features Daniel Simonsen for Champions, David Trent for Spontaneous Comedian, Discover Ben Target, Joe Lycett for Some Lycett Hot and Sam Fletcher for Good on Paper.

Our thoughts go out to the superhuman judges who have managed to somehow see 536 shows over three week period. If that’s not proof of Professor Dumbledore’s ‘Time Turner’ (yeah it’s a Harry Potter reference – what of it?) I don’t know what is.

Josie and Robin Ince returned earlier this month to release a brand new set of podcasts, starting with an Edinburgh special featuring Richard Herring, Isy Suttie and Danielle Ward which you can download here.

The winners will be announced on 25th August. Good luck to all but try not to start spending the £10,000 prize money just yet…
