Speaking to MovieWeb, Cattrall discussed the rumours of a Sex and the City prequel and the possibility of a third film.
On The Carrie Diaries being adapted for cinema goers she said: ‘We’ve seen little rumours about them wanting to make a movie about the girls in their twenties. Maybe late tweens. I didn’t read this book. I haven’t had a chance to. But Candace is a very good writer, and I am sure she has come up with a very good plotline for the girls.’
But she’s not clinging onto any dreams of playing the man-eater again: ‘I am not holding onto that hope. I feel like I’ve let go. Whatever happens with those characters...I would love to revisit them. It’s like a reunion. It’s like going home.
‘Thirteen years of your life? That is a long time to be associated with one show and one character. One family. If it happens, that would be great. But if not? It was an amazing experience.’
She also added: ‘I don’t think it’s possible for us to play twenty-year olds anymore,’ but thinks the prequel might do the franchise justice:
‘Maybe there will be something spawned from further on in these women's stories together. Or, before they met. If they have a good enough script and a good enough director, chances are that it can be a good film.’
Sex and the City 2 was given a critical mauling after it’s release in 2010 and was awarded Razzie awards for Worst Sequel, Worst Screen Ensemble (for the entire cast) and Worst Actress (for all four ladies). Ouch.
‘There seemed to be, what I felt, after a while, a misogynistic slant to how much [the critics] didn’t like it,’ she said. 'In some ways, it was like, ‘We never really wanted to like this, and now we get to really hate it!’ It’s a summer movie. We made it for fans. What can you do but hope for the best?’
