‘I’m not going to crack America. I’m staying, sorry’ he told Metro. ‘It’s taken me long enough to sort things out here and I don’t want to start again somewhere else.’
Would he really need to? Things are going pretty well for Macca - he’s just published his first autobiography, enjoyed a second series of his own stand up showcase Michael McIntyre’s Comedy Roadshow and became the youngest ever host of the Royal Variety Performance.
Asked who his favourite acts have been on his Roadshow he said: ‘The younger ones blow my mind. Daniel Sloss is 19, Kevin Bridges is 24. When I think of myself at that age I wouldn’t have been able to do it.
‘I’ve loved all the acts, though. I don’t see much comedy myself as I’m busy working. We hosted nights at the Comedy Store in London to pick the acts for the show.’
Of the backlash that Michael has received since his rapid ascent to stardom, he was asked if it bothers him: ‘No. Certainly not now when I go to signings and there are people queuing up for hours to see me. I’ve never been happier, to be honest.’
