When we picked up Mike & Molly we knew we were onto a winner – Melissa McCarthy last night won the Emmy for Outstanding Actress in a Comedy Series. Yay balls!
In one of the highlights of the night Rob Lowe and Padma Lakshmi who were announcing the nominees were gradually stage-invaded by the nominated women, Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, Edie Falco, Laura Linney and Martha Plimpton who were determined to act out their own beauty-pageant style ceremony.
Awarded with roses and a tiara, the Bridesmaids star said ‘Holy smokes. Wow, it’s my first and best pageant’ and apologised for being ‘a cryer’.
She also thanked the Mike & Molly crew, Chuck Lorre and her cast mates saying: ‘I work with the best cast and the best crew and I love them all…I go to work, I show up early like a dork everyday cos I kinda can’t wait to see people.’
…and we can’t wait to see her. The now Emmy-winning Mike & Molly returns to Comedy Central TOMORROW at 9.30pm straight after the exclusive preview of Ashton Kutcher’s debut in Two and a Half Men at 9pm. Excitement much?

The big winners of the night however were Boardwalk Empire which scooped eight awards and Blighty’s very own Downton Abbey, which returned to our screens last night, won a total of six awards including Outstanding Miniseries and a win for the ever-amazing Maggie Smith.

The Daily Show with Jon Stewart also continued its Emmy winning streak after nabbing Outstanding Variety, Music or Comedy Series as well as a writing gong. Oh yeah.
Congrats to all the winners and of course Jane Lynch for expertly hosting the 63rd Primetime Emmy Awards.
