The Mirror writes that the pair joined children at a cardiac ward to see how the hospital is changing young people’s lives.
On visiting the unit Michael said: ‘It was uplifting to go in there and see them so happy with the care they are getting. It’s clearly a very special place,’ whilst John added: ‘It’s quite humbling. We’re going to go in a room and make them laugh but when you see what a difference it will make, it’s great to think you are making a small contribution to that.’
Last year’s Comedy Gala raised nearly £1million for the hospital, enough to open a new anaesthetic room at the hospital.
‘People have to wait for operations,’ McIntyre said. ‘If there’s another theatre it will cut waiting times.
‘There will be an anaesthetic room, too, so they will play the comedy gala on loop to send them to sleep,’ he joked.
This year they hope to raise funds for a new £5million theatre.
Funny people already confirmed for this year’s event include Dara O’Briain, Sarah Millican, Lee Evans, Jack Dee, Jo Brand, Jack Whitehall, Kevin Bridges, Rhod Gilbert.
Talking about May’s performance McIntyre added: ‘To be able to create this is amazing and all for a good cause.
‘Bear that in mind when you hear my material! I toured last year but I might have to use old material this time.’
Tickets for this year’s Comedy Gala go on sale tomorrow.
