President Obama's health care reform was passed by the Supreme Court and declared lawful, as reported by Fox News and CNN. Oh. Except both channels reported the wrong result in their haste to be first with the news. As least they were joint first with the wrong news, though we don’t expect them to pick that up as a slogan.

The Court decided by a 5-4 vote to back the President, with Obama able to claim a significant victory in trying to ensure all Americans have a health care provision. Except Republicans are also claiming victory. FoxNews.com suggests that the ruling could help Mitt Romney into the White House to repeal the law on his first day. So in a way, opponents of The Affordable Care Act won, by minus one vote.

The Court ruled that the mandate could be upheld because it was actually a tax. 'No, it's not', said, Obama. 'No way is it a tax.' 'It's a tax, it's a tax,' yelled Republicans, knowing that Americans hate taxes even more than communists and the unarmed.

The upshot is that Americans have now lost the right to financial ruin through illness or injury, a right enshrined in the constitution along with the right to bear bazookas, chew tobacco and develop obesity.

Here in the UK there's disappointment that the richest country in the world will no longer be able to claim that coveted No. 37 spot in the WHO health systems ranking. Brits won't be able to snipe at America's self-claimed 'greatest country in the world' status on the basis that you can die from not having enough money. As Russell Brand famously said at the MTV Music Awards: "You say elevator, we say lift. You let people die on the streets, we have the NHS." His best gag, gone, just like that. They don’t think, do they?
