Peter Kay has slipped into the heels and donned the ginger wig to resurrect his character Geraldine McQueen for a special Comic Relief single.

Kay will be teaming up with Susan Boyle in his transsexual guise to release a cover of Elaine Paige and Barbara Dickson’s classic ‘I Know Him So Well’.

Speaking to The Bolton News Kay said: ‘I just thought it would be a laugh and so I wrote to Susan Boyle and she was really up for it.

‘She was great on the day and worked very hard. We filmed at studios in Salford and carried on from 8am to 1am the next morning.

‘We stuck very closely to the original and when you see the Paige and Dickson version, you can see how similar they are. We have obviously added some funny bits in, but they are fairly subtle - I think it works better that way.’

He added: ‘I hope people will enjoy it and that it raises lots of money for Comic Relief.’

The track will premiers during tomorrow night’s Comic Relief broadcast.

At the time of writing this, Chris Moyles is well on track to beat Radio 1’s record of the longest show ever and looks like he could be nabbing that world record too. He’s so far raised over £800,000 for the cause. Well done!
