Ricky Gervais has defended ex-Two and a Half Men star Charlie Sheen after he was criticised on American daytime television.

Appearing on The View (the American’s take on Loose Women) Monsters and Critics writes that Gervais took to Sheen’s defence when Sherri Shepherd (Angie in 30 Rock) didn’t think his ‘Violent Torpedo of Truth’ tour was funny.

‘Well, he’s not a stand-up comedian is he?’ Gervais said and added that he thinks Sheen is ‘going through a bit of a phase at the moment.’

‘I’m a bit worried that he’s being exploited to be honest.’

Now Sheen’s occupied with a full-time tour Gervais is glad to see he’s toned down the partying: ‘It’s nice now that he’s realised that a ‘quiet night in’ doesn’t have to mean on a life-support machine. So he’s sorted that bit out,’ he joked.

On Sheen’s goddesses he added: ‘And I’m glad to see he’s dating, although I do want to tell him that there are some women in the world who haven’t videoed every orgasm they’ve ever had.’ Touche.

Ricky was recently confirmed to re-appear in The Office over in the States for the Season 7 finale.
