This afternoon Russell Kane was announced as the winner of this year’s Edinburgh Comedy Award!
Kane staved off the hot competition from Josie Long, Greg Davies, Sarah Millican and Bo Burnham to claim the £10,000 prize with his show Smokescreens and Castles.
Third time’s a charm
It was the third consecutive year Kane had been nominated for the award that has been the launch pad for the careers of many stand-up heavyweights including Lee Evans, Al Murray and Steve Coogan.
Kane who takes his now award-winning show on tour this September tweeted earlier ‘Cripes! I only went and won the thing! So happy!’
I bet he is!
Fellow nominee Bo Burnham won the 2010 Panel prize for his show Words, Words, Words and the best newcomer prize went to Roisin Conaty for her Hero, Warrior, Fireman, Liar show.
