Seth Macfarlane doesn’t see Family Guy going the same way as The Simpsons. In fact, he’d rather it ended sooner rather than later.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, MacFarlane, who recently gave Charlie Sheen a right roasting said he doesn’t ever ‘anticipate us [his Family Guy cast and crew] having the standoffs that The Simpsons have had’ lately and that maybe Family Guy should have ended already.

‘Part of me thinks that Family Guy should have already ended. I think seven seasons is about right’ he said.

‘I talk to the fans and in a way I’m kind of secretly hoping for them to say we’re done with it. There are plenty of people who say the show is kind of over the hill… but still the vast majority go pale in the face when I mention the possibility.’

Even if Family Guy’s days are numbered, word on the street is there’s a proper Family Guy movie in the works too – it’ll just be a case of MacFarlane fitting it around American Dad!, Family Guy, The Cleveland Show, his remake of The Flintstones and more!

Talking of his Flintstones remake, that’s looking likely to surface in 2013. MacFarlane said he’s not planning on changing much except things like ‘Fred skipping out on the opera to go to the lodge is something that probably would need to be a little fresher in 2011.’

...and he’s even got his eyes on a Star Trek series! ‘I don't know who would give me the keys to that car,’ he joked, ‘but I’d love to see that franchise revived for television in the way that it was in the 1990s: very thoughtful, smartly written stories that transcend the science fiction audience.’

One at a time now Seth…
