Accepting the award on stage, BBC News quotes Pegg saying: ‘This means a lot to us, because it’s voted for by people who go and see films and that surely has to be the most important opinion of all.’

Frost dedicated the award to his father and also to his ‘lush wife’. Nice.

Hosted by Christine Bleakley, this was the fourth National Movie awards where the movie-going public decide on the winners.

Elsewhere The King’s Speech won three awards, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 was named Best Fantasy and the forthcoming Part 2 of the final instalment won the ‘Must See Movie of the Summer’ title.
